Nestlé was among the most praised companies last week as it announced its endorsement of Caring for Climate, the world’s largest coalition on climate issues, during the U.N. Climate Summit in New York. At the same occasion Kellogg Company announced a new commitment to support the livelihoods of 15,000 smallholder growers around the world. Unilever and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) have formed a new partnership to create jobs, improve water and sanitation and develop sustainable supply chains in developing countries. Ingersoll-Rand has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by half by 2020 in addition to investing $500 million in energy efficiency initiatives to address climate change. At the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting, Siemens Healthcare, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced “Stronger Together,” a new five-year Commitment to Action valued at $15 million, to strengthen laboratory systems in sub-Saharan Africa.

Air France-KLM was among the most criticized companies last week, after a second week of a pilot strike over fears low-cost operations would threaten their jobs. Authorities in northern Mexico have issued a new alert of a river spill from a copper mine operated by Grupo Mexico. The IG Metall trade union expressed fears that 1800 jobs would be cut at a Mercedes factory in Dà¼sseldorf, which belongs to Daimler AG. Barclays was fined for client account failures in the U.K. and the U.S. Workers at four of Amazon.com‘s German distribution centers have started a two-day strike in a long-running dispute over wages.
