GDF Suez and Areva appeared among the most praised companies last week as they have been selected by the French government to install and operate two 500 megawatt offshore wind farms, according to Reuters, which will create 2000 jobs. Avery Dennison announced it will collaborate with the Rainforest Alliance to promote sustainable forestry in Honduras. Westport Innovations said it is working in cooperation with Kroger, one of the world’s largest retailers, to run a pilot program using liquefied natural gas for transportation.

Barclays was among the most criticized companies last week after announcing it would cut 7000 jobs at its investment bank. Samsung was found guilty of patent violation and was ordered to pay US $120 million to Apple. Apple was also found guilty of patent violation against Samsung, and will have to pay a — much smaller — fine. In France, l’Institut national de l’origine et de la qualité (INAO) is sueing Carrefour as it considers its « Origine et Qualité » label creates confusion. Mondelez is expected to cut jobs as part of its restructuration plan, for instance in France at biscuits LU.
