Toyota was the most praised company last week thanks to initiatives such as the donation of business expertise to non-profits, environmental education and scholarship programs.

On the other hand, Ryanair was the most criticized company, after it fired a pilot who expressed safety concerns in a Channel 4 documentary. Sanofi also generated many negative comments as Chinese authorities launched an investigation into the alleged corruption of doctors.

The most praised companies last week were: Toyota Motor Corp., International Business Machines Corp., Ford Motor Co., PPG Industries Inc., and J Sainsbury PLC.

And the most criticized were: Ryanair Holdings plc, Sanofi S.A., Tokyo Electric Power Co. Inc., BP plc, BHP Billiton plc.

This weekly review has been produced using the EthicalQuote reputation index run by Covalence, which tracks 2800 companies worldwide. It gives a summary of positive and negative news published last week about Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), ethics and sustainability.

The EthicalQuote reputation index integrates thousands of news pieces gathered online and classified according to 50 ESG criteria inspired by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and to their positive or negative sentiment.
