It’s sometimes queasy being green: Telefonica unboxes Nokia’s ‘sustainable’ handsets

Telefonica is launching Nokia’s green handsets, announced earlier this year, and now adapted exclusively for Spanish operator, Movistar, reports Ian Scales. The phones offer a range of ‘sustainable’ tweaks -  ecological applications, less packaging, a high-efficiency phone charger and a final recycling offer.  Telefonica says Spain is the first country to run the green project, but it will gradually be introduced into the other Telefonica markets  such as the UK, Germany, Argentina, Peru and Chile. The green offer involves the Nokia N8s and C7s (see video below) being loaded with extra green credentials which range from the substantial to the slightly ridiculous: there is an energy-saving mode, a power-efficient AMOLED screen and an ambient light sensor – all good and worthwhile.
