Starbucks attempting green PR stunt on unrecycled cups

Starbucks is sponsoring an open collaboration contest called betacup to engage the public in solving what it sees as a disposable cup problem. Cynics may argue that this is just a marketing ploy by a company trying to put over green credentials when in fact there are plenty of biodegradable cups already on the market. Starbucks is an international concern which has now entered the CEE market with a bar being opened in Warsaw’s ul. Nowy Swiat just over one year ago. It takes 20 million trees and over 40 billion litres of water to manufacture the 58 billion paper cups that end up as unrecycled waste each year.
