Alaska gold mine worker finds richness in everyday life

090605_kinross.jpgHere is a story about a Kinross Gold employee who works at our Fort Knox gold mine in Alaska. The story notes her different experiences working in the mine, and her winning a company-wide award. The “Living Our Vales” awards recognizes employees around the world who best exemplify Kinross’ four values of Putting People First, Outstanding Corporate Citizenship, High Performance Culture and Rigorous Financial Discipline: Alaska gold mine worker finds richness in everyday life (Fairbanks Daily News Miner). A recent story from Agence France Presse mentions a “1986…fire at the Kinross gold mine south of Johannesburg (that) killed more than 170 people.” This tragedy at the Kinross gold mine has often been cited in different media stories. While the mine name was “Kinross” it was not owned or operated by “Kinross Gold Corporation” (which was incorporated in 1993). We just wanted to ensure this wasn’t counted against our Ethical Quote, as we are sometimes mistaken as the company involved in the tragedy due to the naming coincidence: 36 miners killed in SAfrican fire: union (Agence France Presse).
