HP strives for diversity in workforce

080609_hp.jpgHEWLETT-Packard is striving to have a workforce profile that reflects the diverse one billion people using HP products worldwide. This would see the Fortune 500 company embarking on retraining women or attracting more women to join it, said vice-president of human resources (Asia-Pacific and Japan) Michael Vivakis. According to him, diversity means more than just having a workforce that has a wide variety of skills and it goes beyond gender. “HP see itself as an organisation that provides equal opportunities to people of varying backgrounds and abilities. We also strive to have a balanced ratio of men and women in our worldwide operations because with this balance, we’d see an increasing pool of talent,” he told StarBiz in an interview. “How men interpret things would be completely different from a woman’s perspective and we want to value that aspect of diversity in our workforce,” he said.
